WHAT POLLEN CAUSES HAY FEVER?
There is some confusion when it comes to what really causes hay fever.
All spring allergies are mostly caused by pollen carried by the wind (anemophily), and not by pollen collected by bees (entomophily).
Anemophily is when pollen is transported by wind. Plants with anemophilous pollen can only rely on the wind to ensure their fertilization. The components of this pollen, however, do not equal the wealth of the entomophilous pollen, which is very nutrient dense.
These pollens are very small in shape, light and have designed shapes so that they can be carried by the wind, and they are the ones that cause the very known seasonal allergies or hay fever, while the pollen collected by bees is a superfood, without causing allergies as such.
When bees harvest the pollen, they mix it with their saliva and an enzymatic process of fermentation especially lactic fermentation, is initiated. This process is extremely valuable, because a major part of the potentially allergenic substances have been metabolized in the lactic fermentation process. We end up with a product with a different chemical composition than the one one from original flower pollen.
Allergies to pollen collected by bees, especially to raw pollen, are rare cases. On the contrary, research shows that people with spring allergies, once they consume raw bee pollen regularly, including raw, unfiltered honey that has traces of bee pollen, royal jelly, beeswax, allergic symptoms are being considerably reduced.
Although bee pollen is promising in helping reduce the severity and incidence of common pollen allergies, care should be taken by those with severe allergic responses to pollen, bees, bee products or bee stings, especially if there has been a history of anaphylactic shock.
HOW TO USE RAW BEE PRODUCTS FOR HAY FEVER:
If new to raw bee products start with traces amounts and gradually increase your dose such as one granule of bee pollen, tip of a teaspoon of honey, traces amounts of royal jelly and propolis as bee products in their RAW state are very potent.
It is very important to take them in an increasing dose as it helps the body to desensitize, helping to create defense mechanisms to help fight off the allergen.
BEST TIME TO TAKE THEM:
Ideally, at least 2 months prior to the hay fever season, but anytime of the year would have positive effects.
